Is There a Way to Hire an Attorney Even if You Do Not Have any Money?

Here is a cold hard truth: the people who are in need of legal services are also those people that cannot afford for one.

If you are facing criminal charges filed against you, then you are given an attorney by the court because that is mandated by the law. However, for civil cases, you will have to exert your effort to find a legal representative that will help you with your case.

But, if you do not have the financial means to hire your own attorney, is there still a way for you to find a lawyer even if you do not have any money?

If You Are Facing Child Dependency Cases

I have mentioned earlier that when you are facing a criminal case that the court will appoint a lawyer for you. However, there are some courts in the country that will also provide a lawyer, especially for people who are facing a child dependency case.
The rationale for such is that no parent should lose custody over their children just because of a lack of legal representation and associated services.

Now, it is important for you to know that not all courts will appoint an attorney for you, but there are some that do. You just have to ask around if they give such a privilege.

If they can provide you an attorney, that will be given to you early on in the case so that there is a huge chance that you will win.

The lawyer that you will get will most likely come from the public attorneys’ office.

Contingency Fees

You can also get free legal counsel, albeit you need to have certain conditions met. For instance, you can have a contingency fee arrangement wherein you will be given an attorney and you may have to give them something as part of a downpayment.

Should you lose the case, you will pay absolutely nothing and if you gave them some of your money, it will be given back to you. However, if you win the case, they might ask you for attorney’s fees, but that can be arranged so that you can pay at a later date.

This is a great option for people who do have the capacity to pay but not the hourly rate that is usually asked by the lawyers.

Pro Bono

In certain instances, there are some law firms that will provide pro bono legal services to those who are in need. This is essentially where you get free legal aid and you do not have to worry about anything other than your chances of winning the case.

Aside from some law firms in your area, you can also get legal services pro bono from law school clinics. Basically, some graduating college students will be given extra credit to their grades whenever they provide legal services.

Although they are relatively new in the field, you cannot really choose if you do not have the means to get your own attorney.
